Get to know Nuwan Fernando, Senior Consultant at QMetrix

Let’s meet Nuwan Fernando, a Senior Consultant in the Corporate Performance Management space. Nuwan shares with us about interesting projects, his career at QMetrix, and some personal stories. 

Hi Nuwan, tell us – how did you come to work for QMetrix?

In 2018, I was working as a TM1 Developer and Analyst at Catch of the Day. With my background in Business Intelligence and Planning Analytics, I was approached by Brett regarding a TM1 Consultant role at QMetrix. The opportunity aligned perfectly with my skills and career goals, so I decided to take the next step and join the team. 

What was the first project you worked on end-to-end? Who else was on the project team?

My first end-to-end project was the Ballantyne Planning Analytics (TM1) Environment Upgrade and 3-Way Model Build. I worked alongside David Huynh and Alex Houghton on this project, which was a great learning experience and an excellent introduction to QMetrix’s collaborative approach to delivery.

What was your first social event?

My first social event was the Tree Adventures outing in Belgrave in 2021. It was a fun-filled day with plenty of laughs, and we wrapped it up with a team dinner at a local restaurant – a great way to connect with everyone outside of work.

Tell us about your career trajectory since you came on board.

I joined QMetrix in 2018 as a Consultant, primarily focusing on IBM Planning Analytics (TM1). In 2022, I was promoted to Senior Consultant. Since then, I’ve broadened my expertise to include Workday Adaptive Planning and data integration across Adaptive projects. It’s been an exciting journey of continuous learning and growth.

Tell us about an improvement you have noticed or a big change that has happened since those early days.

Over time, I’ve become more confident in my technical abilities and client engagement skills. I have grown into a more well-rounded consultant – I am comfortable leading discussions, managing relationships, and delivering solutions that add real business value.

What makes QMetrix different to other places you have worked at?

QMetrix stands out for its strong sense of collaboration and support. Everyone genuinely works together and lifts each other to achieve the best outcomes. There’s also a great emphasis on maintaining work-life balance, and the management team truly supports that, which makes a big difference.

Share something significant that has happened to you personally since you have been working here.

Since joining QMetrix, my family has grown from two to four – my oldest child has even started school! Time has flown by, and I’m grateful that QMetrix’s supportive culture and flexibility have allowed me to balance career growth with family life.
